Last full day in San Diego
The morning began with a hot tub trip with Harry and Austin, followed by A DAY AT THE ZOOOOOOOO
we saw a lot of really cool exhibits, like elephants, hippos, gorillas, birds, the works. All in all it was a really good time. I’ve never been crazy about zoos, but this was a lot of fun.
We came back and quickly headed out to a sports bar to watch the ravens/colts game. Chris Lee had the...
San Diego - Day 2
Note to body: STOP WAKING UP AT 8!!
Have you heard of cafe 222? It’s this little breakfast and lunch place that was featured on the food network by Bobby flay for their peanut butter and banana stuffed French toast. Well, we went there for breakfast yesterday and, while I didn’t get the signature dish (I don’t like bananas, shocking), the buttermilk pancakes may have been the...
San Diego-Night One
After about a half hour of deliberation as to where to go out to eat, and a pillow fight involving myself, Brett, Jimmy, and Austin (because apparently we’re 13 year old girls at a slumber party), we headed out to Sloppy Joey’s. It was this little place that served pizza and pasta, as well as the grill stuff off of the menu from next door, which happened to be the other place we were...
San Diego!
After again waking up early in our crazy resort, Austin and I went to grab breakfast and accidentally crashed some catered group breakfast. Woops. So then we ended up with disgustingly overpriced food. Ugh.
We headed out to Scripps Ranch High for two crazy assemblies, for some of the most insane kids ever. They really went NUTS. it was a lot of fun. It also reminded me of a good question I want...
Universal Studios!
So after waking up way too early, getting out late and getting lost, we ended up at universal for our performance. It was fun, woody woodpecker, crash bandicoot, dora and curious George all enjoyed us! Then we had a while to browse the park. The simpsons ride is AWESOME. I hate to say it, but it’s better than the back to the future ride it replaced. Speaking of bttf, we saw the delorean and...
Tuesday-2nd half
Waiting for Austin to get out of the shower, so here’s what else happened on Tuesday!
After the price is right, we headed to the cheesecake factory in the grove. The grove is this outdoor-ish mall, it’s really cool. The cheesecake factory was great, but the hour and a half ride back due to traffic was not. That was awful.
That night we got to hang out with the guys from evolution,...
First of many to recap the past few days
So long story short, I have to update from my iPhone for the next few days, and I’m tired but still feel the need to update fans/family, so I’ll start with a bit from yesterday
Wake up early, head out to CBS studios. After cutting it down to the wire and a nasty prank by some guys, we got our tickets for the price is right and started singing in line. People enjoyed it, the cameramen...
"Hey! You're that guy!"
Again, it’s 6:30 in the morning, and I’m currently waiting for Austin to finish getting ready so we can get breakfast before today begins. So I’ll tell you all about yesterday!
First of all, the breakfast at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Burbank is.. surprisingly quite good. And the woman there is a recent musical theatre graduate, so we had some fun things to talk about!
We...
A bunch of pictures in one post
When we got back from our show on Saturday, our amazing hosts, the Knowles family, asked us to sing for some friends that couldn’t see us the night before, so we busted out this fun one that we haven’t done since Fall Tour
Anyone who doesn't like PF Chang's is wrong
FIRST OF ALL: Don’t miss our only full public performance in California! Today, Noon, Santa Monica Pier! It looks like there may be a legitimate crowd, based on the people I’ve spoken too. We’re really pumped!!
With our first night in California, we decided to head out to PF Chang’s. Being one of the many people who has never actually been to a PF Chang’s, I was...
OH NO WE FORGOT TO BRING OUR DREAMS! But we DID...
We’re ACTUALLY in LA! This is exciting! It’s actually kind of surreal, at least for the board. We’ve been talking about this since April, and it’s crazy that it’s actually happening now.
So after a morning of waking up at 4, out the door at 5 (or 5:10..) and listening to Breakdown! on the ride there, per Mr. Knowles’s choice, we got to Newark airport and...
CALIFORNIAAAAAAAA CALIFORNIAAAAA
HERE WE COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME
The iTunes Visualizer
Today ended up being a GREAT day after some worries that the yelling/singing/overall fun of last night may hinder the work today!
Somehow, we were all ready AHEAD OF SCHEDULE and got to CB West with time to spare. We met up with Dr. Ohrt and his Chamber Choir and did a workshop with them. Talk about SMART KIDS. Their views on our rehearsal techniques were really cool and taught US a thing or...
PS22's Blog →
Gregg’s blog about the PS22 chorus, Harry thought I should post the link, since he did a post about us, but a lot of it will look familiar
Recap of Friday!
Long and good day. So we got back from Avatar last night around 1:30, and woke up today at about 10-ish. We went to this really great diner called Lancer’s. Really, I was surprised how good it was. Then we had some free time before singing at Jimmy’s high school to advertise for tonight.
A lot of today was spent by the guys on their computer tracking hits/comments/ratings/twitter...
From Johnny- PS 22
There are so many things I want to say about our day at PS 22, I don’t even know where to begin. As a future music educator, I was touched by Mr. B and the kids at PS 22. The most rewarding thing as a teacher is seeing your students enjoy what they are learning. The 5th graders at PS 22 love everything about singing and their joy is infectious. Knowing that in some way Ithacappella has made...
My Favorite Moment - Jingle Bells
Hey guys, Rob here with some more PS22 reflections.
Of all the amazing moments that we shared with the kids, my personal favorite collaboration of the day has yet to have been mentioned! Dave talked about how the first thing we got to do was to go “caroling” around the school, singing for classrooms and teachers. Just as we were wrapping up the tour, we came across a group of kids...
Honors for the fireflies video ALREADY
Got an e-mail from Mr. B this morning. We’re ALREADY the 80th most favorite music video on youtube today, and the 61st most rated music video today. And as he said, ‘And historically speaking, something tells me those stats will rise throughout today…’
Help us make this HUGE!! Here’s the link again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R3C-jhmEoM
Send it around to...
Avatar-Take 3
An awesome way to end a fantastic day. Great movie, not the best. This is now the third time I’ve seen this movie (but to be fair, I’m one of about 5 guys in the group to see it for the third time tonight), and I still can’t get past some of the screenplay. But I’m a jerk. We’ve all been going nuts over the videos that Mr. B posted on his youtube account from...
Ithacappella and PS22 sing 'Fireflies' →
Check this out. We are in line for avatar and SO PUMPED about this. The comments?
From Harry
Needless to say, I was struck by the depth with which these kids understood the music they sang. We go to other elementary schools, and we get questions like “do you like dogs?” At P.S. 22 we were asked “What inspires you to sing?” Looking at the faces on these kids as they went through some of their rep was like any music educator’s pipe-dream. The surreality of it...
PS22 - "We sang for Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and senior...
Where to start.. Chronologically I guess? A bunch of the guys are going to write stuff about today. I’ll let you know what we did and my own reflection:
First of all, in case you don’t know about the PS22 Chorus, this is an elementary school in Staten Island with a 5th grade chorus that has become YouTube celebrities over the past few years thanks to people like Perez Hilton posting...
Upper Dublin High School
Waking up at 6 was a beast, especially when certain people may or may not take really long showers, and they may not be named Jordan and Andy. Let’s just say when I woke up, Jordan was in the shower, and I didn’t get into the shower until 6:40. Just sayin :)
So we went to UDHS for an 8:30 assembly, not realizing that we’d be singing for about 900 crazy awesome high school kids...
Bed before midnight!
Crazy night. Fun with Mr. Knowles. Fun with video cameras. Fun with taking Jimmy’s old clothes. Mrs. Knowles also makes some fantastic meatballs. Also, went to cold stone (again) with Jimmy, Austin, and Johnny. Delicious. Going to bed before midnight so we can wake up at 6 and go to Upper Dublin High School.
Hello to Ithacappella parents who will probably start reading this in the morning!
Senior Moments
So this is my first attempt at blogging on our Ithacapella winter tour blog and I plan on making it as short, sweet, and minimally sentimental as possible. As a senior looking back on all four of the tours I have been fortunate enough to experience, I recall amazing memories that will always hold a special place in my heart ( okay so that’s as cliche and sappy as I will get…I...
PS22 confirmed, improv theatre show confirmed
So we’re officially going to PS22 tomorrow in Staten Island. If you don’t know the PS22 Chorus, it’s these guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0FPZolbYns
I’ve been in contact with the teacher (Who’s the coolest person in the world, by the way) since around Thanksgiving and now that we’re fully confirmed to go there tomorrow, I’m REALLY excited. We saw...
First morning in Horsham
After a 3 hour chat with Chris Lee, Rob and Jordan, and sleep at 4 AM, noon came and we got out of bed. A screening of Joe’s movie happened, and now I’m sitting around.. planning tour.
Which reminds me!
NEW CONCERT: Saturday night, 7 PM, Central Bucks West High School in Doylestown, PA, $5
It’s gonna be tons of fun! Go to it!
updates and highlights
in chronological order:
-Rob and I stayed with our same homestay as last year, and that family is phenomenal, the dad in that family may be one of my favorite people ever.
-Fun little workshop with the East Lyme Concert Choir, they did the Mozart Lacrymosa and it was great.
-Mafia game that Brett sufficiently ruined.
-Legit workshop, East Lyme has got some talented and smart kids. Like, for...
Our homestay dad may be the coolest guy I’ve ever met, and REALLY smart. I’m exhausted. East Lyme was awesome. More details tomorrow. Too tired. Gemantown and Sean Perry!
