Today ended up being a GREAT day after some worries that the yelling/singing/overall fun of last night may hinder the work today!
Somehow, we were all ready AHEAD OF SCHEDULE and got to CB West with time to spare. We met up with Dr. Ohrt and his Chamber Choir and did a workshop with them. Talk about SMART KIDS. Their views on our rehearsal techniques were really cool and taught US a thing or two. One guy referred to our concentric circle exercise as being like an ‘iTunes Visualizer.’ So, that’s the new name of that exercise.
Then we split up for lunch, and a bunch of us went to Primo Hoagies. WORD. That was awesome. Oh, crap, my leftover sub is still in my car.. I should go get that.
Our next workshop was for the men’s choir, most of which had already seen us in the first choir. They BLEW US AWAY with this piece written by Dr. Ohrt, called ‘Hymn To Our Holy Mother.’ It was this really cool, dissonant version of the Ave Maria with some nifty sound effects. We put some new sounds into it and gave them some cool exercises to improve some of their phrasing and energy. Rob went on a bit of a here’s-how-to-make-crazy-noises workshop. Dr. Ohrt is an awesome guy, very calm on the outside, and probably INSANE on the inside :).
We got a chance to actually relax for a while today, which for me meant planning the rest of the California part of tour. The most public appearance we have is a 12PM show at the Santa Monica Pier on Monday. COME TO IT! Or just let us know if you’re in California and want to hang out!!
SO TONIGHT we got to do a really cool, different show at CB West. We sang in the choir room, no microphones, no speakers, just acoustic, lights up with everyone, and we got to make it a really intimate, personal show. We were afraid of not having a crowd because we didn’t schedule this until Tuesday, but we had about 100+ people there to see us, and they really got a kick out of it. It was a lot of fun to make a bit more of a personal connection with the crowd, and the energy was something very different than what we’ve been used to. We’ve done the same concert all week, so it was great to switch it up. I think this may have been the most fun concert yet. The crowd was very receptive, and I really hope we can come back here again, and maybe with a bit more notice next time ;-)
There’s a Chic-Fil-A platter downstairs. Also, we REALLY miss Geoff. The youtube video is starting to take off, keep sending it around. I can not believe tour is only HALF OVER. We leave for California in about 6 hours, and we are SO PUMPED for how this shaped up.
More tomorrow! This tour is great
