Ramblings, Musings, Happenstances, and things that may or may not occur

“Hey! You’re that guy!”

Again, it’s 6:30 in the morning, and I’m currently waiting for Austin to finish getting ready so we can get breakfast before today begins.  So I’ll tell you all about yesterday!

First of all, the breakfast at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Burbank is.. surprisingly quite good.  And the woman there is a recent musical theatre graduate, so we had some fun things to talk about!

We started our day at the Santa Monica Pier, singing for about an hour, and forming a pretty sizeable crowd.  Of course, we forgot to bring a hat or something, so we used my camera bag.  We still made some money and sold some cd’s, and it was a fun gig.  It’s HOT here though.  Well, for us.  The GPS I was using was.. not good.  I won’t incriminate the person it belongs to, but we did end up going the wrong way down the Pacific Coast Highway for about 10 minutes.  But it’s a really, really nice drive down there and it’s pretty.  Jimmy is legitimately considering buying a house along the beach there.  No joke.

After that was our gig at Campbell Hall High School, a private school in North Hollywood.  While trying to find out where to go, apparently Dakota Fanning walked by the guys.  And they all went crazy.  Especially Chris Lee, because he LOVES Twilight.  Seriously, this kid is obsessed.  If you ever see him, talk to him about Twilight, Taylor Lautner, vampires, and being fake-goth, he’ll be enthralled.

The workshop went really well, it was mostly for middle school kids who apparently don’t get excited too often, but they definitely got excited for us.  That’s always exciting.  We’re starting to settle into some of these songs, which can be good and bad, because one we’re comfortable, but two, sometimes we check out a bit :-P

After an impromptu performance for a couple of kids outside of the school, we ventured to Hollywood and Highland, where we got dinner at this place called uWink.  This is like a dream come true for me, because I’m a nerd.  You see, at uWink, you order all of your food from a touch screen MAC computer, and then you play games on said computer with the other people you’re with.  It was awesome, and the food was pretty good too.  Our waitress was a Voice Performance major from Cal Arts, and she was very happy when we sang to her.

We took a walk over to the.. Kodak Theatre? Chinese Theatre? I don’t know, wherever they do those movie premiers, because they were having a premiere of The Book of Eli, and we saw Johnny Depp, Mila Kunis, Denzel Washington, Magic Johnson (don’t know why), and Rosario Dawson arrive.  The closest person I saw was Rosario, and oh my god, she is BEAUTIFUL.  We all went a bit nuts.  People split off for a bit and we met back up to go to the West Side Comedy Theatre in Santa Monica.

When we arrived, we found Michael Maury waiting for us by the door.  Michael is the guy who STARTED our group in 1996.  Like, we wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for him.  He’s helped us out with a ton of gigs here in CA, and it’s been awesome to see him/talk to him.  He was having us sing at this improv theatre show, one song to open, and two songs between the two acts.  One of the two songs turned into Say All I Need with a solo from Joe Pera.  Only, the solo was Joe’s stand up.  This was NOT easy for us, because Joe’s stand up is fantastic.  The show was good, I’ve never seen long-form improv before, so it was definitely interesting, and quite funny.

Can I just say that almost every ramp we have to get on in California is closed for some reason? Don’t know why, but it’s incredibly frustrating.  Bah.  But now Austin is out of the shower, and we’re going to get breakfast before heading out to The Price Is Right.  My money is on Johnny getting picked as a contestant.  Bets?
